The General Electric WR49X40248 Refrigerator Evaporator Cover and Fan is an internal airflow unit that controls cooling in the freezer, and fresh food units. Its purpose is to spread cold air uniformly throughout the evaporator system. The fan mechanism moves air over the refrigeration coils and forces it to circulate through the cover channels. This is placed on the back of the interior panel of the refrigerator, and is attached directly over the evaporator.
